🎮 Easy Mode Never Made You Great
Remember getting a new game as a kid?
You would sit cross legged on the floor, controller in hand, buzzing with excitement.
You would fire it up and be faced with three choices.
Easy. Medium. Hard.
I have always thought there is something different about the mindset of the person who chooses Hard over the first two.
Easy Mode
You fly through the levels, slay the bosses, rack up the wins.
It feels good.
But play it again. It does not hit the same.
Play someone else. You get humbled quickly.
You get used to winning without earning it.
So you go back, craving that dopamine hit.
But what you are really building is nothing.
Medium Mode
Now we are talking.
It takes longer. More setbacks.
You are decent. You are consistent.
Probably top ten percent.
But there is still a ceiling.
Hard Mode
This one kicks your arse.
You fail. A lot.
You lose to opponents you should beat.
You rage quit.
You start again.
And again.
But slowly, you get sharper.
You start seeing patterns others do not.
You stop fearing the bosses. You study them.
You learn.
And then one day, without even noticing, you are top three percent.
You are the one people do not want to play.
But here is the catch.
To get there, you have to be okay being rubbish for a while.
You have to be okay losing.
You have to stop chasing quick wins and choose to master the game instead.
Discomfort is the entry fee.
Make peace with it, and you might just win a life worth playing.
My personal take is this.
On this slightly infuriating truth.
I have been very good at medium mode.
Comfortable. Still holding a little holiday weight, as they say.
Reliable. An all rounder.
Not known for anything great.
For now 😉
